| VOLUNTEERS |
We are blessed that all of our volunteer positions are currently filled. If you are interested future opportunities or would just like to learn more, please give us a call at 627-6748! Clothing Closet Volunteer This volunteer must be available each Monday from 8:45 to 10:15. Staff stock the Clothing Closet with men's clothing each Friday and the volunteer distributes clothes to up to 30 clients each Monday. The volunteer is responsible for managing a sign up sheet of clients and providing clothes based on the client's needs (e.g., basics, work, interview, warmth) and what we have available. It is important to maintain boundaries and consistency when running the Clothing Closet. The volunteer will receive orientation and training as well as ongoing staff back up for any questions that may occur. Donation Pick Up Volunteer We receive regular support in the form of in kind donations from local churches and businesses and need a volunteer to assist with these pickups on Mondays from 10:30 to approximately noon. There are 3 pickups total and they are located in the Norfolk/Virginia Beach area. We will provide an assistant to help you navigate the area and help lift and load items, so the ability to move heavy things is not a requirement. What Do Other Volunteers At St. Columba Do? St Columba is a place where all people are made welcome and put at ease. Our staff and volunteers are able to work with people from a variety of backgrounds who are facing a variety of challenges in their lives. Day Center ministry – Volunteers monitor the room where clients come and go. They distribute sandwiches, coffee cups and other food, maintain the shower list and hand out towels, soap and other toiletries. They answer questions, converse with and listen to the clients. Volunteers are needed in this position during the hours that the Day Center is open: Monday through Thursday 9:00 AM to 2: 00 PM. All Day Center spots are currently filled. School Supplies Program – Volunteers are needed to help pack and hand out school supplies to needy families the week before school starts. Volunteers can choose to give a give a few hours or a whole day – whatever is best for their schedules! We are always taking names and numbers to contact when we open the volunteer sign up for School Supplies. Call Alicia at 627-6748 to get on the list!
